Professional Services

At K Calder and Associates, we offer a wide variety of services ranging from security planning to threat assessment and gap analysis:

Security Planning

Here we identify systems and processes in order to provide a comprehensive protection program tailored to your organization's needs. Security planning solutions may include recommendations to the physical environment (i.e. security systems, lighting, locks), modifications to personnel or training, as well as policy and procedure development.

Case Study: K Calder & Associates assisted with the development of an integrated security plan for a large public transportation system. Planning elements included the identification of physical and personnel security applications and the development of corporate policies and procedures to support the mitigation of probable threats and risks.

Security Risk Assessment

During this process we assess security-related risks from identified adversaries to an organization's entity, assets or personnel. Our approach includes the assessment of the corporate assets (including all security programs in place, staff procedures, etc.), examples of loss events, probability scenarios, impacts, and key vulnerabilities. From this point we identify mitigation strategies, analyze the feasibility and cost benefits of alternatives, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.

Case Study: K Calder & Associates completed a security risk assessment of a large public sector corporation in British Columbia. Project phases included conducting interviews with management and employees, site assessments, and an incident review, resulting in recommendations related to physical security enhancements, procedural changes, and training to address the security risks identified.

Vulnerability Assessment

Where is an organization vulnerable to security-related events?

Recommendations to mitigate vulnerability may include revisions to physical aspects of the organization, operational design, policy or procedures, personnel, and related training to effectively impact or exploit a weakness in security.

Case Study: K Calder & Associates assisted with the vulnerability assessment of a large Vancouver corporation's security systems. Vulnerability was assessed through on-site visits and evaluations of the effectiveness of security systems in use, and physical site and equipment design. In addition, security response testing was conducted to assess the effectiveness of personnel and implemented procedures.

Targeted Violence Threat Assessment

The professional judgmental assessment of an individual identified as posing a threat of violence to an identified individual(s) or organization to determine the nature of the threat posed and the level of risk. This may occur in a workplace or school setting. With our extensive training and current assessment processes, we provide organizations with critical support in identifying, assessing and managing threats of violence.

Case Study: Kevin Calder personally co-managed and implemented the B.C. Sheriff Services Threat Management Program and its integration into the British Columbia courts system. Kevin was responsible for assessing high profile/high security events, and threats of targeted violence to judiciary, legal counsel, and family, civil and criminal court participants.

Also, Kevin, through K Calder & Associates, has recently assessed the threat of violence posed by former and current employees, students and other individuals. These individuals made threats or were perceived as posing a risk of violence to individuals or companies in B.C.
